PHL, Brunei sign MOU for sports exchange

The Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) and the Brunei Darussalam Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to further strengthen the bilateral relations through an exchange of sports programs, athletes, coaches, and information.
Brunei Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports Pehin Orang Kaya Pekerma Laila Diraja Dato Paduka Awang Haji Hazair bin Haji Abdullah, permanent secretary Dato Paduka Awang Haji Mohd Hamid bin Haji Mohd Jaafar, Department of Youth and Sports acting deputy director Hj Rosmadee Hj MdDaud, and officers Zafri Hj Mohamed and Pg Hj Md Sariffudin Pg Hj Alli made an official visit to PSC chairman Richie Garcia to sign the MOU.
"The PSC is continuously working on renewing bilateral agreements with our Association of Southeast Nation (ASEAN) neighbors and powerhouse countries like China, Cuba, Australia and Russia to broaden our understanding on how to be competitive in the global scene," Garcia said. "This is a boost for our athletes in their international campaigns."
In turn, the Brunei sports officials expressed joy over the signing of the MOU.
"Through this (MOU), we hope to cement the already existing friendship between Brunei Darussalam and the Philippines, and as early as now, we are extending our invitation to the Philippine government, through the PSC, for the signing of the MOU in Brunei," said Minister Abdullah.
The minister added that the Philippines can help Brunei in basketball, softball and athletics, as well as in sports sciences. In return, Brunei will be sending athletes and coaches to promote programs on pencak silat, speak takraw and traditional boat race. - Adrian Flores, JVP, KY, GMA News
