MANILA, Philippines - Lambanog, dubbed as the "Philippine vodka," caught the attention of some international stars after it was recently served in an exclusive Hollywood event.

VuQo, the first Filipino vodka brand, was served during the "Wisteria Lane Block Party" held at the set of "Desperate Housewives" inside the Universal Studios in California.

Stars from the hit American television series and other Hollywood actors said they were excited to try the fiery coconut-based liquor, which is endorsed by Filipino bantamweight champ Nonito Donaire.

"I'm not a big drinker, but I will (drink this)," said James Denton of "Desperate Housewives."

Bob Guiney, star of "The Bachelor," for his part said, "Oh, coconut's good. I like that. I bet coconut vodka with some pineapple juice will be delicious. That's what I'll drink tonight."

VuQo was launched in the United States last year, with the product positioned as the Philippines' answer to upscale vodka brand Grey Goose. The company hopes to make lambanog known internationally by serving VuQo in major Hollywood events.

Lambanog is created from tuba or the sap of the coconut flower. The sap is then cooked through fermentation and distillation, and placed in wine bottles. -- Report from Yong Chavez, ABS-CBN North America News Bureau
