ITALY – Nineteen-year-old Justin Salazar has been in Italy for barely a year. The Filipina who is based in Pisa is slowly gaining fame for her singing talent.
Salazar is the only Filipina chosen to join the reality show “Saranno Famosi”, literally translated as “Will Be Famous” -- a regular TV program of Channel 50 in Italy.
One of her professors in that TV program and now her mentor, Signora Barbara Ambrosini, noticed Salazar’s exceptional talent and gave her the opportunity to record her first album under Yellow Recording in Pisa.
She has already launched her second album last June. Salazar also became the grand winner of the “Concorso Sette Notte Terennia 2011” singing contest held in Pisa recently, beating 17 other contestants of varied nationalities.
When asked how she sees herself in the near future, Salazar said, “I wish to become known as a good singer here, in the Philippines, and in the whole world.”
She was seen singing in the TV program "Saranno Famosi" in Channel 50 last June 14, 23 and 29, 2011.
Recently, she joined an Italian band called “80 Beat band” as a vocalist. With the band, she performs regularly at the Club Baronette in San Miniato, Italy and has the opportunity to tour.
Before coming to Italy, Salazar was able to finish her degree course in Hotel and Restaurant Management at the De La Salle University in Lipa City despite her hectic schedules for many singing engagements.
Aside from being busy with her studies and singing career, she was also the guardian of her 4 younger siblings after her parents left them to work overseas.
“I am very glad that now my whole family lives in Italy and they are always behind me and supporting me in all my endeavors,” she said.
Salazar wishes to extend one request to her fellow Filipinos in Italy. "Please support the Filipino talents here. There are a lot of talented Filipinos in Italy and around the world. We count on your support for us to succeed. Our success is the success of all of us Filipinos," she said.
