PHL Networks Clinch 13 Nominations At The Asian TV Awards

MANILA, Philippines - ABS-CBN leads Filipino contenders at the upcoming 17th Asian Television Awards with six nominations in two out of its three umbrella categories.
It has been revealed via the Nominations List posted recently on the award-giving body's official website that the Kapamilya network is in the running for:
Best News Programme for ''Bandila: Sendong's Wrath,''
Best Music
Programme for ''ASAP Rocks (Gives Back),''
and Best Talk Show for ''The
Bottomline with Boy Abunda,''
Best Current
Affairs Presenter for Korina Sanchez in ''Rated K,''
Best Actor in a Leading
Role for Coco Martin's performance in ''Maalaala Mo Kaya - Kamao'' episode,
and Best Actress in a Leading Role for former child actress Sharlene San Pedro in ''Maalala Mo Kaya - T-Shirt'' under the Performance Categories.
Rival networks GMA-7 and TV5 follow with three nominations apiece.
GMA-7 scored:
Best Adaptation of Existing Format for ''Survivor Philippines: Celebrity Showdown'' under Programming.
For Performance, the network received the:
Best Actor in a Supporting Role nomination for Gabby Eigenmann's role as an
antagonist in ''Munting Heredera;
and,
Best Comedy Performance by an
Actor/Actress for Michael V. in ''Bubble Gang.''
On the other hand, the Kapatid network made the shortlist in three Programming Categories subsections, namely:
Best Single News Story/Report for
''Bilang Tao: Kubeta'';
Best General Entertainment Programme for ''Talentadong Pinoy - Battle of the Champions 2012'';
and
Best Lifestyle Programme for ''Chef
vs. Mom.''
Lastly, Solar Entertainment received its only nomination for:
Best Adaptation
of Existing Format for ''Project Runway Philippines,''
which was aired on ETC.
The number of nominations for the country has noticeably increased from seven in 2011 to 13 this year.
Meanwhile, Filipino actor Arthur Acuna has likewise scored a Best Actor in a Supporting Role nomination for his role in The Group Entertainment's pan-Asian TV musical series, ''The Kitchen Musical,'' which stars local singer-actors Karylle and Christian Bautista.
In line with this, the TV musical also competes in three more subcategories, all under the Technical and Creative Categories, namely: Best Direction, Best Editing, and Best Drama Screenplay.
Last year, the Philippines took home the awards for Best Talk Show (ABS-CBN's ''The Bottomline with Boy Abunda'') and the Best Theme Song (the Boy Christopher Ramos-composed ''Ikaw Ang Buhay Ko'' for TV5's ''Star Confessions'').
The 17th Asian Television Awards will be held on Dec. 6 at the Shangri-La Hotel in Singapore.
