Pinoy artist wins Ouest France award

Komikero Gerry Alanguilan's "Elmer" is a prizewinning chicken yet again with its latest award, the Quai des Bulles – Ouest France 2011.

Alanguilan shared the good news on his blog posted Saturday after being informed by his European publisher Serge Ewenczyk. Published in France by Editions Ca Et La, Elmer was one of ten finalists vying for the award.

"I’m really just writing this down like a robot because my emotions are currently going ballistic and I really don’t know what to do or say. I’m still like oh maaaaaan," wrote Alanguilan in his blog post announcing the victory.

Elmer was announced the winner on the official festival blog on October 29.

Elmer is the story of a chicken living like a human. The official website describes the series as "a window into an alternate Earth where chickens have suddenly acquired the intelligence and consciousness of humans."

The Ouest-France Award is one of three awards given during the annual festival, which celebrates comics and cartoons. First held in 1981, the festival is a gathering of around 400 artists. This year's festival was held in Saint Malo, France, from October 28 to 30.

In July, Elmer was chosen by the Association of Comic Book Journalists to receive the Prix Asie-ACBD 2011 award for the Best Asian Comic Book published in France.

Elmer was also nominated for Best Graphic Album in the 2011 Will Eisner Comic Industry Award, widely considered as the "Oscars" of the comic book industry. — LBG, GMA News
