MANILA, Philippines – An all-male Filipino acapella singing group proved its world-class talent after winning big in the recent American International Choral Festival held in Reno-Tahoe last May 4 to May 8.

The California-based choir, “Prime Note Ensemble” bested 18 other contestants and won the gold in the Folklore category. They also bagged the silver in the Male Chamber and Popular Music categories.

Prime Note Ensemble’s stellar rendition of the native song “Kruhay” and Lion King’s official sound track “Circle of Life” won the gold and silver diplomas respectively, according to the official results from the website of the The American International Choral Festival.

The award-winning choir, led by choirmaster Novem Cabios and founder Medard Obida, has been recognized for participating in three international choral events under the organizer, Intrkultur.

Prime Note Ensemble is now qualified to compete in the Wolrd Choir Games and the World Choir Championships in the next five years.

Another Filipino group also emerged victorious in the event.

Ramon Lijuaco Jr.’s “Young Voices of the Adventist University of the Philippines” won the gold in the Sacred Song category.

According to its website, the American International Choral Festival combines the best of the American and international choral traditions. All choirs are welcome to compete but they can still participate in the festival without competing.
