MANILA, Philippines – Eight high school students from Mindanao are set to support a Department of Health (DOH) campaign that seeks to promote health habits among residents of their respective communities.

The following students are expected to help in the campaign in their respective hometowns on relevant health issues, after being hailed as Youth Health Champions of their province:
  • Ace Suganob, Lala National High School (NHS), Lanao del Norte;
  • Jalilah D. Jamel, Datu Palawan NHS, Tamparan, Lanao Del Sur;
  • Jenny Referente, Basilan NHS, Isabela City, Basilan;
  • Rubina Sarapuddin, Batu-Batu NHS, Panglima Sugala, Tawi-Tawi;
  • Nur-Aini Yunos, Indanan NHS, Indanan, Sulu;
  • Diofel Lacaya, Bacong NHS, Salug, Zamboanga del Norte;
  • Charel Faith Buot, Laperian NHS, Tukuran, Zamboanga del Sur; and
  • Carlo Brylle Delagua, Davao Oriental Regional Science High, Mati, Davao Oriental.
The said students earlier topped the Health Quiz Road Show, which was attended by contenders from across the country.

Sulu board member Alkraimer Izquierdo, meanwhile, commended the DOH and partner organizations for their efforts in raising awareness on health concerns.

“This is the kind of project that we need. We hail and support projects that help improve the lives of our constituents… We cannot prepare the future for our children, but we can prepare our children for the future,” he said.

The DOH has launched the project last March to support its National Health Sector Reform (HSR) Program.
The latter, meanwhile, seeks to improve the health condition of the population by meeting the country’s health-related Millennium Development Goals.
